Domesticando o Indomesticável 2

On March 2016 I directed the second edition of this introductory workshop on Type Design, which took place this time at the École d’Arts Appliqués, in Poitiers, France. The participants created a typeface based on their handwriting. By choosing a specific tool, they drew the alphabet’s letters and the other symbols that make part of a font. The focus was set on the gesture, and on how typography, in spite of its domesticating aspect, offers unique possibilities of expression – hence the workshop’s title, which can be translated as “Taming the Untamable”. By the end of the cycle, the resulting script was digitally edited and eventually exported as a font, and the participants created a poster/specimen presenting their typefaces.
