Domesticando o Indomesticável

On December 2013 I directed an introductory workshop on Type Design at the UFMG Cultural Center. The participants created a typeface based on their handwriting. By choosing a specific tool, they drew the alphabet’s letters and the other symbols that make part of a font. The focus was set on the gesture, and on how typography, in spite of its domesticating aspect, offers unique possibilities of expression – hence the workshop’s title, which can be translated as “Taming the Untamable”. The resulting script was digitally manipulated and eventually exported as a font.
